About my bags
The finery on the exterior of my bags betrays the practicality of the interiors. While for the bags are high on style and are covered in silks, cottons, and many other types of finery, all are lined with backpack weight cordura nylon and have heavy duty webbing straps. These bags are made to be used!
About me and my love of fabrics
I have always been a fabric freak. Growing up in Manhattan, life was full of color and texture. Exposure to many cultures, costumes and crafts(and a father in the garment business) sparked my love of fabric and led me to get a degree in textile arts. I’ve worked in fabric printing, theatrical costuming, and teaching art, but have always returned to the art of the handmade. I love to create things!
I collect fabric everywhere. Some are vintage, some contemporary and some collected from my travels. No color, texture or material is safe from becoming part of my fabric pile. I hauled this ever growing collection through numerous moves until I settled in Bend, Oregon with my family. Wanting a diaper bag that was more stylish than cutesy, I created a large, practical tote that made a personal statement. The response from friends was so positive that I came up with other styles, too. The fun is in combining the colors and textures with great trims to make each unique creation. My bags are handmade in my new workshop, each designed so that you can enjoy a handmade expression of funky style.
What is Lika J.?
When my brother was cleaning out our old apartment, he sent me stories I had written in grade school and signed Lika J. - a rearrangement of my initials to create a childhood pen name.
Where is Bend, Oregon?
Lizzi now lives with her family (husband Steve, and great kids Sadie and Cobe) in Central Oregon’s high dessert. While Bend is thought of mainly for its outdoor recreation, a lot of very creative folks live here. See links to check out others in the Bend community.
